Microsoft may overhaul Xbox Game Pass with an à la carte subscription model that lets players choose which features they want instead of paying for a complete package.

According to a new Fortune report, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma is exploring more flexible subscription options that could give subscribers greater control over their monthly costs.

The idea isn’t entirely new. Previous reports suggested that Microsoft was considering a Pick Your Plan subscription model for Game Pass.

Xbox Game Pass could introduce customizable add-ons

Under the proposed model, Microsoft could retain its existing Game Pass tiers while allowing subscribers to purchase individual features and add-ons.

Players could potentially choose between:

  • Console-only game access without additional services.
  • Xbox Cloud Gaming for streaming games across supported devices.
  • Online multiplayer as a separate subscription feature.

Such an approach could make Game Pass more affordable for players who don’t need every feature included in higher-priced plans.

However, Microsoft hasn’t confirmed the proposed changes, their pricing, or a potential launch date. It’s also unclear whether the company would adjust existing subscription tiers.

For now, subscribers will have to continue using the existing Game Pass plans.

The report comes shortly after Microsoft announced the Xbox Game Pass October 2026 Wave 2 lineup, adding eight games to the service.

In other Xbox news, reports suggest that the next Xbox handheld could arrive in 2027, while Project Helix may cost up to $1,800 in 2028. Meanwhile, AMD has confirmed that FSR 4.1 is coming to Xbox Series X and Series S.
