Microsoft Edge has been updated to version 136.0.3240.92 in the Stable Channel. The latest update introduces the new tab experience and fixes several known issues.

The Edge browser will now begin showing more productivity-related Copilot prompts near the search bar on the new tab page. Besides that, a new Copilot button lets users send search queries straight to Copilot. These features are rolling out across all Edge channels and will reach users gradually.

Copilot updates arrive as Edge fixes background extension issues

The Edge 136.0.3240.92 update fixes multiple issues:

  • Background extensions that triggered new windows were being paused when minimized—this behavior has now been corrected.
  • Microsoft Defender Application Guard windows no longer close unexpectedly after one minute of inactivity.
  • PDFs with Japanese fonts should now display text properly, fixing previous rendering problems.

That’s not all; Microsoft has also released Edge version 137.0.3296.39 to the Beta Channel. This comes after the previous update that took away multiple useful features that made users fume. Besides, changes to Copilot, the version released in the Beta channel, introduce Web Content Filtering (WCF)—a new tool aimed at schools and SMBs.

Microsoft announced this tool at the Build 2025 event. WCF lets IT admins restrict access to harmful content by blocking categories of sites. According to Microsoft, this allows organizations to carpet-block millions of websites with minimal setup. For the uninitiated, WCF is now in public preview.
