Here’s how Microsoft Edge’s built-in AI tool fixes browser problems

We put Edge’s new “Fix an issue” tool in Edge Beta to the test to see how its AI troubleshooter responds to common browser problems.

We reported in June that Microsoft was testing a “Fix an issue” tool in Edge that could use AI to help users troubleshoot browser problems. The tool has now appeared with a new interface in Edge Settings, where users can choose a common problem or describe their own issue.

We spotted the feature is in Edge Beta. For now, Edge offers four preset problems:

  • Fix videos that won’t play
  • Resolve sync issues
  • Help me sign in
  • Speed up a website

Users can also describe their own problem instead of selecting one of the suggested options.

After selecting a problem and clicking “Get Help”, Edge asks for permission to use diagnostic and Edge Settings data. Once granted, it returns a “Solution for this issue” and labels the result “This is an AI-generated response.”

Edge gives a different answer for each problem

Edge uses AI to help address common browser problems. In my tests, its responses often indicated that no Edge setting change was needed to resolve the issue.

Each prompt returned a different recommendation, and every result was clearly marked as AI-generated. This shows that Fix an issue is more than a shortcut to Edge support content.

The responses can vary depending on the problem and the information available during troubleshooting. For example, when I asked Edge about a slow browser, it suggested closing unused tabs, disabling unnecessary extensions, or restarting Edge to free resources.
