Microsoft Edge is Finally Getting Google Account Sign-in Support This July
Microsoft is finally easing one of the long-standing requirements of its Edge browser. Starting July 2026, users on Windows and macOS will be able to sign in to Microsoft Edge using a Google account.
Until now, Edge has primarily relied on Microsoft accounts for browser sign-in, syncing browsing data, and accessing features tied to profiles. While users could browse the web without signing in, anyone wanting to sync passwords, bookmarks, history, tabs, extensions, and settings across devices needed a Microsoft account. Well, that is about to change.
According to an official entry on the Microsoft 365 roadmap, spotted by Neowin, Edge users will soon see a Google account option directly within the browser’s profile menu and sign-in screen. The feature will roll out globally later this summer.
The move could lower a key barrier for users deeply invested in Google’s ecosystem. Many Chrome users rely on Google accounts to keep their browsing experience consistent across devices, and Microsoft appears to be removing one more reason to avoid switching to Edge.
Microsoft has not detailed exactly which syncing capabilities will be available when using a Google account. It also remains unclear whether users will gain full access to Edge services without linking a Microsoft account at some point during setup.
For businesses and managed environments, Microsoft is keeping control in the hands of administrators. Organizations can disable the feature using the “NonMicrosoftAccountSignInEnabled” policy.
