Microsoft Edge has recently removed the “Show shopping notifications” setting from Copilot in Dev and Canary channels. This feature, which automatically provides chat suggestions as notifications when shopping online, has been a helpful tool for many users to find deals, compare prices, and get personalized recommendations.

With the removal of this feature, users may no longer receive real-time, AI-powered shopping suggestions while browsing online. This could make it more difficult to find the best deals and products without actively searching for them. As a result, Microsoft Edge’s Copilot may no longer track your shopping activities online.

Microsoft revamps Copilot, removes Shopping Notifications in Edge

Likewise, with previous changes to Copilot, Microsoft hasn’t officially announced anything about this. While this may be good news for privacy-conscious users, it also means that users are losing some control over the Copilot feature. Shopping notifications might still show up in the Copilot sidebar, causing some inconvenience.

There could be several reasons behind Microsoft’s decision to remove this feature: If users found the notifications intrusive or not particularly useful, Microsoft might have decided to remove them to improve the overall Copilot experience.

Users might have had concerns about data privacy and how their browsing data was being used, prompting Microsoft to remove the feature to address this. The Copilot’s shopping notifications feature still exists in beta and release, but it could be just a matter of time before Microsoft pulls it.

While Microsoft has chosen to remove the explicit shopping notifications, Copilot will likely continue to evolve and offer shopping-related assistance in more subtle ways. This change could result in fewer interruptions and fewer data collection, which could mean more privacy for users.

Apart from this Copilot change in Edge, recently Microsoft offered more control over Edge sidebar visibility via new Settings. The company also made instant updates part of Edge Beta. Further, Microsoft is testing the ability to edit images with Designer in Edge and prepares Edge Lens to take on Chrome’s Google Lens.
