Microsoft Is Cleaning Up Windows 11's OneDrive Right-Click Menu
Microsoft is simplifying the Windows 11 File Explorer context menu by removing several Copilot actions from the OneDrive submenu. The changes will begin rolling out in mid-November 2026.
According to Microsoft 365 Message Center MC1515940, the company wants to reduce clutter in the right-click menu while keeping the underlying Copilot features available through other entry points.
Microsoft expects to complete the rollout by early December 2026.
Which Copilot actions are disappearing?
Microsoft will remove the following actions from OneDrive’s File Explorer context menu:
- Summarize
- Create FAQ
- Compare Files
- Ask a question
- Explain image and Explain images
- Compare images
- Extract text
Users will no longer see these options directly in the OneDrive submenu when right-clicking supported files in Windows 11.
Copilot features aren’t going away
Microsoft isn’t discontinuing these capabilities. Users can still access them through the Ask Copilot option in File Explorer’s context menu, the Copilot button that appears when hovering over a OneDrive item, and Copilot actions in the OneDrive activity center.
The company hasn’t specified whether it will deliver the change through Windows Update or a server-side OneDrive update.
The move comes as Microsoft continues expanding OneDrive’s capabilities. The company recently introduced AI-powered Copilot Search to OneDrive and SharePoint and added secure PDF annotations to both services.
