Microsoft is Retiring “Send to Kindle” Integration in Word
Microsoft is quietly announced to retire the Send to Kindle feature built into Microsoft Word. Spotted by folks at Office-Watch, the updated support document mentions that the change takes effect after February 2026. That’s when the option will disappear from Word’s Export menu entirely.
If you’ve used Word to move documents straight to your Kindle library, the retirement comes as a bad news. All this while, the feature made it easy to convert working documents into readable Kindle files in minutes, without leaving the app.
That said, Microsoft isn’t killing off Send to Kindle feature. After retirement date, users will need to send DOC and DOCX files manually through Amazon’s standalone Send to Kindle website. In short, the process still works, but with an extra step.
Notably, users can still choose between Kindle book format. Microsoft says this allows you to use adjustable fonts, dynamic layouts, and handwritten notes on Kindle Scribe, or Word document format. More importantly, it also preserves page layout and formatting for print-style reading. Do note that changes and comments won’t carry over like before.
Microsoft hasn’t explained why the Word integration is being retired. If you are someone who regularly sends drafts, reports, or reading material to Kindle, you need to understand that the feature isn’t gone yet, but the clock is definitely ticking.
