Microsoft May Finally Restore the Movable and Resizable Taskbar in Windows 11
Microsoft is reportedly preparing to reverse one of Windows 11’s most criticized design decisions. According to Zac Bowden from Windows Central, Microsoft plans to bring back the movable and resizable Taskbar.
The feature is reportedly now in active development and could be unveiled this summer if timelines hold. The change would allow users to position the Taskbar at the top, left, or right side of the screen. That flexibility has been missing since Windows 11 launched in 2021.
Back in the Windows 95 era, moving the Taskbar was standard functionality. That option disappeared when Microsoft rebuilt the interface for Windows 11. Fortunately, it appears that the company is ready to revisit that call. Bowden’s sources further hint that Microsoft is also working on letting users resize the Taskbar, adjusting how much screen space it occupies.
Engineers are reportedly ensuring that flyouts, system tray elements, and pinned apps behave correctly in alternate orientations, something that may explain the long delay. If you could remember, last month’s report by Bowden mentioned that the company wants to make changes to Windows 11 from the ground up. Now, it seems the company is finally doing something.
All that said, the company has not publicly confirmed the Taskbar changes, so it’s possible that plans might shift. Would bringing back a movable Taskbar be enough to win you back, or has Microsoft already pushed you too far from Windows 11? Let us know in the comments below.
