Microsoft may have pulled the plug on the Surface Laptop Studio 2

Microsoft may have reportedly discontinued the Surface Laptop Studio 2, which came with beast specs. According to a paywalled report by The Verge, the tech giant stopped manufacturing earlier this month, and the laptop will be formally “end of life” next month. Microsoft’s store lists five of six configurations, but shelves are clearing fast.

That’s not all; many resellers have reportedly confirmed Microsoft stopped making the Surface Laptop Studio 2. However, the company will continue to offer software and driver updates for current users until October 3, 2029.

This isn’t the first Surface Laptop to get discontinued, by the way. Microsoft has gradually pulled some of the other Surface lines of devices. This includes the Surface Studio, Surface Headphones 2, and Surface Earbuds.

Generally, we see companies phasing out their old products with the release of a new one. Microsoft could also be following the same path, as it recently announced the Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch.

Prior to the Laptop Studio 2, Microsoft’s flagship offering with a dedicated GPU was the Surface Book, a detachable base hybrid. Both the Laptop Studio and Surface Book were quite popular for their bold design and innovating the laptop form factor. Now, Microsoft appears to be moving away from those designs.

Not to forget, the report about discontinuation of the Surface Laptop Studio 2 comes a few days after the company announced it to slash 3% of its global workforce.
