Microsoft Paint - Feature Update

Microsoft spent 2023 showing some much-needed attention to its beloved in-box Windows image graphics editing app as it showered the program with new features and UI changes.

Based on a Windows Insider build (11.2402.20.0) for Canary and Developer Channels Microsoft appears prepared to continue its feature releases for Paint in 2024 that include adding a brush size slider and a new tiling effect for its recently added layers panel.

Based on the accompanying GIF in PhontomOcean3‘s tweet, Windows Insiders can now test a more refined brush adjustment experience that transitions from a preselected four brush size option to a more granular slider.

Unfortunately, the Windows team is playing coy with the update as Senior Program Manager Brandon Leblanc reiterated to Neowin that the feature isn’t available for wide testing yet.

If the update does roll out for wider Insider testing, the new brush adjustments and layer UI’s will joining paints new growing list of recent features that include a dark mode, background removal, image generation via Microsoft Cocreator, transparency, and layers.
