Microsoft Planner just got a serious boost with several new features aimed at making task and project management more efficient, especially for those relying on its AI-powered Project Manager agent inside Microsoft Teams.
The biggest update? Email notifications. While real-time updates in Teams were already live, Microsoft is now extending those alerts to your inbox. This means you’ll get notified when a task is complete or when your input is needed, even if you’re away from Teams.
Also rolling out is the new status report generation feature, now in public preview. It gives users a clean, AI-generated snapshot of project progress, upcoming milestones, possible risks, and recommended next steps. For now, this feature works in English, but Microsoft says other languages will follow shortly.
Speaking of languages, the Project Manager agent now understands over 40 languages, putting it in line with Microsoft 365 Copilot, though Arabic and Hebrew are still pending until later this week.
Beyond AI updates, there’s also something for hands-on users: bulk editing in Grid view. Using Ctrl + Up or Down arrows, users can now adjust multiple tasks at once—change priorities, assign work, or tweak deadlines without opening each task individually.
Microsoft also reminded users that Project for the web and related Teams apps are being phased out. Starting August 1, all users will transition to Planner automatically, with licenses carrying over. No action is needed on your part.
These updates suggest Microsoft is continuing to merge project management and AI in meaningful ways, making Planner smarter and more accessible for teams everywhere.
