Microsoft Publishes Recovery Steps for Locked C Drive on Samsung Systems

Microsoft locked c drive

The February Patch Tuesday update has caused a wide array of issues for users. According to reports, KB5077181 caused boot loops, login errors, and more.

It has been reported that this update locked users out of the C drive, and after investigation by Microsoft, it was concluded that the Samsung Galaxy Connect app was responsible.

Microsoft Offers Solution for Locked Files on the C Drive

While the app was temporarily removed from the Microsoft Store, there’s still an issue with files that were lost after the update. Luckily, Microsoft has released a step-by-step guide that affected users can follow to recover their files.

Firstly, users need to sign in as an administrator and uninstall the Samsung Galaxy Connect app. Next, users need to repair drive permissions and add temporary permissions. Lastly, users need to run a .bat repair script to restore default Windows permissions.

By following these steps, the ownership of the C drive should be restored to TrustedInstaller, and affected users should be able to access their files again.

While these steps might seem daunting, users should be able to complete them by following the instructions on the Microsoft support page. If the issue persists, Microsoft suggests contacting Samsung Support.

That’s not the only issue that Microsoft has fixed, as the company has released the KB5084897 emergency update that fixes missing Bluetooth features in Settings.
