Microsoft Quietly Upgrades Bing Maps Addresses With a Massive Data Overhaul

Microsoft has now completed a major upgrade to Bing Maps that it started back in mid-2025. The update brings in TomTom’s Orbis address data, which now powers most address results across Bing Maps, Azure Maps, Bing Search, and Copilot (via Neowin).

At a time when location accuracy matters more than ever, this is one of the biggest behind-the-scenes changes in years. With the fresh update, Bing Maps now offers better coverage, more accurate pin placement, and the latest data.

The new system keeps evolving as real-world locations change rather than relying on occasional updates.

Users can now notice more accurate address details across Microsoft’s location services, including Bing Maps, Bing Search, and Copilot. At the same time, Azure Maps is set to provide more reliable API results, powered by the updated Orbis data.

Microsoft started with a few European regions, then expanded gradually. According to the company, each phase involved testing data quality, checking accuracy, and only then pushing it live. It’s a slower process, but it likely helped avoid large-scale issues. Moreover, Microsoft says the work isn’t done yet, with more updates expected over time.

If you had trouble with exact location pinning in the past in Bing Maps, this update is most likely to fix that issue.
