Microsoft Releases Windows 11 26H2 to Release Preview Channel

Microsoft has officially released Windows 11 version 26H2 into the Release Preview Channel. The Build 26300.9278 gives Insiders an early look before general availability of Windows 11, Version 26H2 later this year.

Windows 11 26H2 enters its preview phase

The update lands via an enablement package, keeping Windows 11 24H2, 25H2, and 26H2 on one servicing branch. That approach also means many 26H2 features may already look familiar. However, things might be much different for those on Windows 11 version 26H1.

As far as commercial devices are concerned, Microsoft says Windows 11 26H2 enables previously introduced experiences that were not enabled by default. These include Windows Settings Backup, app-specific taskbar actions, and several File Explorer enhancements.

Release Preview Insiders can manually get the update via Windows Update. Do note that the PCs must meet Windows 11 hardware requirements.

General availability is still coming later

Microsoft says Windows 11 26H2 will reach general availability later this calendar year. The company has not provided a specific public release date.

Once the update is installed, Insiders will continue receiving servicing updates through the normal Windows Update process. Commercial customers enrolled through Windows Insider Program for Business can also start validating the release. Nicrosoft further added that administrators can use Windows Update policies and WSUS for deployment.

Azure Marketplace availability is scheduled for later today. Microsoft also says Windows 11 26H2 ISOs will release via the Windows Insider ISO download page soon. There is another deadline worth watching, by the way. The conpany has reminded useds that Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro editions reach end of updates on October 13, 2026.
