Microsoft Rolls Out New Firmware Update for 12-Inch Surface Pro
Microsoft continues to update its Surface lineup, and the smaller Surface Pro model is now getting attention. After a recent firmware release for Surface Pro 10, Microsoft has started rolling out a new firmware update for the 12-inch Surface Pro.
As reported by Neowin, the update focuses on security, reliability, and input improvements. Microsoft says it addressed potential security vulnerabilities that could lead to unexpected shutdowns and, in certain scenarios, privilege escalation.
What’s new in the latest Surface Pro firmware update
One of the key areas addressed involves Surface Slim Pen 2 reliability. Microsoft fixed an issue where the pen could unexpectedly lose pairing after inking. The update also improves pen erasing stability and corrects cursor misalignment that occurred while hovering, resulting in a more accurate and consistent pen experience.
The firmware also introduces a new management option aimed at IT administrators. Organizations can now disable the stop error triggered by holding the power button for an extended period. Administrators can control this behavior by setting the PowerButtonBugcheck registry value to 0, simplifying device management in enterprise environments.
In related company news, Microsoft recently reported a 16.7% increase in revenue and secured a supply agreement with SK Hynix to support production of its upcoming Maia 200 AI chip, signaling continued investment in both hardware and AI infrastructure.
