Microsoft Teams Adds Brand Impersonation Protection For Voice Calls
Microsoft continues to focus on improving user security across its services. After resolving the recent Microsoft 365 outage, the company is moving forward with new feature rollouts, this time aimed at improving protection in Microsoft Teams.
Microsoft Teams introduces brand impersonation protection for calls
As reported by BleepingComputer, Microsoft Teams is introducing a new fraud protection feature called Brand Impersonation Protection for voice calls. The goal is to help users avoid scams that rely on impersonating trusted companies or organizations.
The new feature works by analyzing incoming VoIP calls from external contacts. If Teams detects signs that a caller may be impersonating a known brand, it will display a high risk warning before the user answers the call. This gives users an early signal that the call may be part of a social engineering attempt.
When a call is flagged, users can decide how to proceed. They can accept the call, block it, or end it immediately. If suspicious behavior continues after the call is answered, Teams may keep showing warnings during the conversation to alert the user in real time.
Microsoft expects the rollout to begin in mid-February 2026. The feature will be enabled by default for Teams Calling users, and no administrator setup is required. However, Microsoft notes that IT and helpdesk teams should be ready to assist users who may have questions about the new warnings.
This update is part of Microsoft’s broader effort to improve caller identity protection and strengthen secure collaboration in Teams, especially as voice based scams continue to increase.
In addition to Teams updates, Microsoft is also working on other improvements across its ecosystem. Microsoft 365 Copilot is set to receive watermarks for AI-generated content, while Microsoft Outlook will gain new search filters designed to make inbox management easier.
