Microsoft Teams Rooms on Mobile to Get Live Meeting Transcription

Microsoft Teams is preparing several updates, including the ability to identify third-party bots and changes to recording notifications. Another upcoming addition focuses on accessibility during meetings.

According to Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 555234 and Admin Center Message ID MC1249432, Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android will soon support live transcription.

Live transcription coming to Teams Rooms on Android

The new feature will display real-time transcription directly during meetings. Participants will be able to see spoken content appear live with speaker names and timestamps.

If translation is enabled in the meeting, translated transcripts will also appear on the front-of-room display. The translated text will show below the original transcript, allowing multilingual teams to follow conversations more easily.

When transcription begins, Teams will ask users to confirm the meeting’s spoken language. Participants will also receive a notification indicating that transcription has started, along with privacy details explaining how the feature works.

Visual indicators will show when transcription or recording is active

Microsoft is also adding clear visual indicators so participants can easily understand what meeting features are active.

A transcription icon will appear when transcription is running. A recording icon will appear when a meeting is being recorded, whether transcription is enabled or not.

Users will be able to start transcription directly from the Teams Rooms console. This can be done by selecting More and then Record and transcribe or Transcribe, depending on tenant settings.

Admin requirements for the feature

Microsoft says administrators should ensure several prerequisites are met before the feature rolls out.

Teams Rooms devices must have a Teams Rooms Pro license assigned. Organizations should also verify that transcription settings in the Teams admin center align with their internal policies.

The feature is designed to improve meeting accessibility, particularly for hearing-impaired participants or multilingual teams that rely on live captions and transcripts.

Rollout schedule

Microsoft plans to begin rolling out live transcription for Teams Rooms on Android in late April 2026. The rollout is expected to be completed by late May 2026.

The update will be available for Worldwide and GCCH customers and will be enabled by default. Microsoft says no additional admin action will be required to activate it once the rollout begins.

The new feature arrives as Microsoft continues expanding Teams capabilities across meeting rooms and devices. At the same time, the company is also preparing to introduce a more controversial update: a work-location tracking feature, but this time, users will have the ability to opt out.
