Microsoft to Stop Sending Teams Recording Expiration Emails Starting This June
Microsoft has announced an upcoming change for Microsoft Teams users. Starting June 1st, the company will stop sending email notifications for expired Teams meeting recordings. The update comes after feedback from users who said the previous notifications were too frequent and offered little value.
That being said, recording expiration and deletion policies are not changing. Any expired recordings will still be deleted as scheduled, even if email alerts are no longer sent. Microsoft says this change is designed to respect user preferences while keeping important communications intact.
For organizations that still want notifications, a new per-tenant setting will be introduced before June 1st. Microsoft plans to share another message center post once the option is live, and documentation will be updated on the support page to guide admins through the change.
After the June 1st deadline, notifications can still be re-enabled at any time using a PowerShell command. This ensures organizations retain control, even if the default behavior changes.
The company further noted that an earlier message center post contained errors. It mistakenly asked recipients to fill out a survey, but didn’t include the link. Microsoft encourages customers to share feedback through this link and join the ongoing discussion to ensure their preferences are considered.
Speaking of Teams, let’s not forget that, after massive backlash, Microsoft has made the controversial work location feature opt-in.
