Microsoft Teams will soon be enhanced with Cross-Cloud collaboration in Virtual Digital Infrastructure, meaning government-based accounts can join meetings with VDI users in specific Microsoft 365 cloud environments.
As these meetings often involve important exchanges of sensitive information, joining them will be possible through three options: authenticated access via a cross-cloud meeting connection, authenticated access using a guest account, and, ultimately, anonymous access.
The Redmond-based tech giant says these cross-cloud scenarios will require a special optimization in Microsoft Teams called the Slimcore-based optimization, allowing meetings to exist in different cloud environments.
Here’s what the entry says:
VDI users can join meetings with people in other Microsoft 365 cloud environments (e.g., a user in GCCH joining a meeting in commercial, GCC or DOD) through three options: authenticated access via cross-cloud meeting connection, authenticated access using a guest account, or anonymous access. These scenarios require Slimcore-based optimization, as WebRTC-based optimization does not support meetings across different cloud environments.
The new enhancement will be released in February 2025.
In other news, Microsoft Trams will soon let you customize how you open file links from any 365 app. You can do this in Teams or in a browser of your choice.
