Microsoft Updates Services Agreement Ahead of September 30

Microsoft has published a new version of its Services Agreement, with changes affecting Microsoft Store updates, Microsoft 365, Copilot, Rewards, and several older services.

The updated agreement takes effect on September 30, 2026. Until then, Microsoft says the current Services Agreement will continue to apply.

Microsoft removes older product references

Microsoft has removed Groove from the Digital Goods section, although the service still appears elsewhere under Covered Services.

The company has also reduced references to Cortana, noting that the related services were discontinued in 2024. The changes mainly clean up references to products Microsoft no longer actively supports.

Microsoft Store updates get clearer rules

Microsoft has expanded its explanation of automatic updates through the Microsoft Store.

The Store can check for and download app updates even when users are not signed in to the associated Store account. Users can pause automatic Store app updates through Microsoft Store or Windows settings.

Some Office Store apps that run partly or entirely online can still receive developer updates without user approval.

Microsoft also warns that certain apps may stop working until users install or accept an update. Delaying updates could result in lost functionality, support, or availability.

Microsoft 365, Copilot, and Rewards changes

Microsoft has updated the Microsoft 365 section to reflect its current subscription options.

The agreement also replaces the term “Copilot AI Experiences” with “Copilot,” bringing the wording in line with Microsoft’s current branding.

Microsoft Rewards has received updated language as well. The new agreement refers to two annual redemption-limit tiers, reflecting changes to how many Rewards points users can redeem each year.

The revised Services Agreement will officially replace the current version on September 30.

In other news, Microsoft plans to roll out its Microsoft Planner redesign next month, while it is also bringing OneDrive Photos controls to users. Additionally, Edge now also has a 20GB storage requirement for local AI.
