Microsoft is retiring its Chrome extension, Microsoft Autofill, which will affect over 100,000 users next month. Autofill allows users to save their passwords, addresses, and payment information and automatically fill them in on sites they visit.
On November 14, 2024, Microsoft disabled saving new information and editing existing information. After December 14, 2024, users can use the Microsoft Account info in the Edge browser for autofill. It will also be available for export, and it can be used in another browser, as well.
However, payment information saved on the Autofill Chrome Extension will not be available in the Microsoft Account.
Why is Microsoft Retiring the Extension? The Redmond-based tech giant published a support document explaining why it’s retiring the Autofill Chrome Extension:
We regularly review our offerings to ensure we deliver the highest value experiences for our users. As part of this review process, we are retiring this extension to simplify our offerings better.
As we mentioned earlier, the Autofill Chrome Extension deprecation next month will affect over 100,000 users. Time is short for finding an alternative, meaning most users won’t be able to use autofill for a while.
