New Outlook Adds a Spell Check Before Sending Emails
New Outlook is getting a new spell-check feature that will warn users about spelling mistakes before they send an email, according to Admin Center MC1479509.
Microsoft already offers real-time spelling and grammar checks through Microsoft Editor, but the new option will work differently. If Outlook detects spelling errors when a user tries to send a message, it will prompt them to review the email first.
Microsoft plans to start rolling out the feature in October 2026, with broader availability expected by mid-December.
The spell check will be optional
Microsoft will not enable the feature by default. Users who want the additional check will need to turn it on through Outlook’s Settings.
Keeping the feature optional should help avoid unnecessary interruptions caused by false positives, regional spelling differences, names, or other words that Microsoft Editor may flag incorrectly.
Users who leave it disabled can continue using the existing spelling and grammar indicators that appear while composing emails.
Microsoft has also been making several other changes across Outlook. The company is putting Copilot in front of Outlook Classic users, while it recently backed down on a Classic Outlook People Card change.
New Outlook is also getting Copilot Chat directly inside the email composer, giving users another AI-powered tool while writing messages.
