Outlook Is Getting Copilot Chat Right Inside the Email Composer

Copilot Chat is coming directly to Outlook’s email composer, giving users a new way to get AI help while writing messages without leaving the draft.

Microsoft plans to add an inline Copilot Chat experience to Outlook on the web, bringing the assistant directly into the email-writing interface instead of requiring users to open the Copilot sidebar.

According to Microsoft 365 roadmap entry 570440, users will be able to interact with Copilot while composing an email.

The change should make Copilot easier to access during drafting. Instead of opening the Copilot sidebar and switching attention away from the message, users will be able to ask Copilot for help directly from the composer.

Microsoft has not detailed every command that the inline experience will support, but the feature focuses on helping users work with Copilot without interrupting the email-writing process.

Outlook users won’t need to open the Copilot sidebar

The inline integration reduces the number of steps required to reach Copilot while writing an email.

Users will remain inside their current draft while interacting with Copilot, which could make it quicker to generate, refine, or adjust email content without moving between different parts of Outlook.

Microsoft currently lists the feature as being in development.

Microsoft plans an October 2026 rollout

Microsoft plans to start rolling out the inline Copilot Chat experience to Outlook on the web in October 2026.

The company says the feature will become generally available to standard multi-tenant Microsoft 365 customers.

Microsoft is also working on other ways to make Copilot more prominent inside Outlook. The company plans to add a floating Copilot Chat experience in Outlook and is preparing to place a Copilot button directly in the Ribbon menu in Outlook.

Together, the changes show Microsoft moving Copilot closer to the main Outlook interface rather than keeping it primarily inside a separate sidebar.
