New PowerToys Update Fixes Performance Monitor Bugs and Memory Leak
Microsoft has released another maintenance update for PowerToys, delivering a small batch of fixes aimed at improving the recently introduced Command Palette Dock. The new PowerToys 0.100.2 release follows shortly after version 0.100.1 as the company continues refining features introduced in the major 0.100 update.
The latest release focuses on the Performance Monitor dock extension, resolving two issues that affected accuracy and stability. Microsoft also made an internal optimization to reduce unnecessary resource usage during metric updates.
PowerToys 0.100.2 fixes Performance Monitor Dock issues
According to the release notes, Microsoft fixed a bug that caused the Performance Monitor dock to display incorrect values. Users relying on the dock to monitor system activity should now see accurate performance metrics.
The update also addresses a memory leak in the Performance Monitor dock extension. Microsoft explained that the issue stemmed from the extension repeatedly creating new list items for network upload and download statistics every time the displayed metrics refreshed.
To resolve the problem, the company changed the implementation to reuse stable network upload and download band items instead of generating new ones on each refresh. This should improve memory usage during extended sessions.
Microsoft also reverted an earlier change that forced the Performance Monitor dock to refresh all items whenever any monitored metric updated. The adjustment should further reduce unnecessary processing while keeping the displayed information current.
More PowerToys features are on the way
While version 0.100.2 is strictly a bug-fix release, Microsoft is already working on new functionality for future updates.
One of the upcoming additions is Alt Window Cycle, a utility designed to make switching between multiple windows from the same application easier.
Microsoft has not announced when Alt Window Cycle will become available, but it is expected to arrive in a future PowerToys release as development continues.
