Next-Gen Xbox 2027 Launch Reportedly on the Table, Not Locked In; Price Still a Mystery
The PlayStation 6 (PS 6) and next-gen Xbox console have been the topic of interest across the gaming industry for quite some time now. We have come across multiple rumors suggesting a 2027 launch, with recent ones even claiming that the ongoing memory crisis could push the next-gen Xbox console further to 2028. Well, if you have been wanting some new details regarding the launch of the next-gen Xbox console, we may have some.
2027 isn’t locked in for the next-gen Xbox console launch yet
Last week, a few reports hinted that AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, during the company’s Q4 2025 earnings call, gave a hint at the next-gen Xbox’s launch timeline. Per Su, “Development of Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox featuring an AMD semi-custom SoC is progressing well to support a launch in 2027.” For those unaware, last year AMD and Xbox entered a multi-year partnership to power the latter’s next-gen gaming devices. For those unaware, the ROG Xbox Ally series handhelds are the result of that collaboration. Last year, we got to know that AMD’s semi-custom SoC, which will power the next-gen Xbox console, is codenamed “Magnus.” Just to be clear, that’s not the codename for the new Xbox console.
Although AMD’s CEO hinted at the 2027 launch, Jez Corden from Windows Central reports that Microsoft “hasn’t fully internally committed to a hard 2027 launch window for the next-gen Xbox platform.” That’s primarily due to pending Windows 11 improvements and other factors, like Microsoft’s expectation for the current Xbox generation to have a longer lifespan. Speaking of AMD’s hinted launch timeline, Corden notes, “Microsoft insiders were a little taken off-guard by Lisa Su’s comments on Xbox’s Gen-10 timeline.” In his words, a 2027 launch for the next-gen console would be the “best case scenario.”
Pricing is still unclear as Microsoft juggles hardware plans and big game releases
If you are eager about the price of the new Xbox console, sadly, there’s no surety about that, too. That has more to do with global economic conditions, the memory crisis, and more. Interestingly, the report also talks about potential collaboration between Microsoft and other OEMs like ASUS for developing different next-gen Xbox options, which could give players the ability to choose across multiple price points. Furthermore, Microsoft’s Windows and Xbox teams are reportedly “working more closely than ever” to bring the best Windows experience to Xbox.
Speaking of Xbox, let’s not forget that bunch of big games are also on track for 2026 launch. Last week, a similar report by The Verge’s Tom Warren hinted that Microsoft is aiming to release big 2026 Xbox games earlier than November to avoid clashing with GTA 6’s release, which reportedly will have its marketing kicked off this summer. In the same report, Warren added that the next Xbox controller could launch with Wi-Fi in 2026.
