Nintendo Hints What to Expect from the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct
The Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct just got a little more interesting. Nintendo has clarified that the presentation will cover more than games. The big one remains The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which is confirmed for more information during the showcase.
Nintendo is widening the Zelda anniversary showcase
Nintendo’s Japanese announcement on X says the September 8 showcase will cover initiatives connected with Zelda’s 40th anniversary beyond games. It will also provide more information about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake for Nintendo Switch 2.
That wording is important because Nintendo has not limited this presentation to upcoming game releases. The company has not revealed exactly which anniversary initiatives will appear. That leaves plenty of room for surprises during the broadcast. The Direct is scheduled for September 8 and will run for roughly 30 minutes.
The Ocarina of Time remake is the obvious headline
Nintendo already confirmed the Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 during its June Direct. The company previously said the remake will arrive in 2026. However, release details have remained limited since that reveal.
The 40th anniversary showcase now seems the perfect podium for Nintendo to finally open the floodgates. Fans could get a release date, fresh gameplay footage, new features, or a deeper look at Nintendo’s remake. Not to forget, the live-action Legend of Zelda movie is another obvious possibility, but Nintendo has not confirmed its appearance. The official wording only confirms anniversary initiatives beyond games, not specific movie news.
