Nintendo Switch 2 Passes 23 Million Sales as Demand Stays Strong

Nintendo Switch 2 sales have reached 23.68 million units worldwide, with Nintendo reporting continued demand more than a year after the console launched in June 2025.

Nintendo published its first-quarter FY27 financial results on August 6, providing an updated look at Switch 2 hardware sales and player engagement.

Switch 2 passes 23 million units sold

Nintendo shipped 3.82 million Switch 2 consoles during the latest quarter, bringing lifetime sales to 23.68 million units.

Quarterly hardware sales dropped 34.4% year-on-year, but Nintendo faced a difficult comparison with the console’s launch quarter, when initial demand drove significantly higher shipments.

Despite the decline, Nintendo says Switch 2 continues to outperform the original Switch when comparing both systems at similar points in their lifecycles.

The company described Switch 2 sales as favorable and said new first-party releases continue to support hardware demand as the console enters its second year.

Japan’s price changes have not slowed demand

Nintendo revised Switch 2 pricing in Japan on May 25, but the company says hardware sell-through has remained solid.

The figures suggest the pricing changes have not significantly affected demand for the console.

Nintendo still has around 130 million annual players

Nintendo also reported approximately 130 million annual playing users between June 2025 and June 2026.

The figure has remained relatively stable during the transition from the original Switch to Switch 2, giving Nintendo a large active audience across its gaming ecosystem.

With more than 23 million Switch 2 consoles sold and hardware sales still ahead of the original Switch at a comparable stage, Nintendo enters the rest of FY27 with strong momentum.

In other news, Nintendo has confirmed its Gamescom 2026 lineup and the Nintendo eShop Summer Sale 2026 has begun, offering discounts on Switch and Switch 2 games.
