Nodus Fall is HoYoverse’s Wild New Dark-Fantasy Game Announced at Gamescom 2026
HoYoverse just dropped a big surprise at Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live. The studio behind Genshin Impact revealed Nodus Fall, a dark-fantasy co-op action game built around giant monsters and coordinated combat.
Nodus Fall takes HoYoverse somewhere much darker
The reveal trailer introduces a world where divine authority has crumbled and order has collapsed. Players take the role of a Weaver, joining others to battle powerful mythical beings. The footage shows enormous creatures dominating the landscape. Dragons, phoenix-like monsters, wolves, and towering bosses appear throughout the trailer.
Combat also looks substantially different from HoYoverse’s better-known games. The footage focuses on close-range attacks, powerful abilities, dodging, and coordinated encounters against massive enemies.
The game appears designed around co-op play, with reports pointing to groups of up to four players. Characters also appear to have different combat roles and abilities.
The Elden Ring and Monster Hunter comparisons are already flying
Nodus Fall immediately drew comparisons to Elden Ring because of its grim fantasy setting and gigantic enemies. Its combat and boss encounters also appear to borrow ideas familiar from Monster Hunter. That comparison should be treated as an observation rather than an official description. HoYoverse itself has presented the game as an original co-op action experience.
The trailer also shows players using different weapons and abilities. One character appears to use a large sword, while another use ranged attacks. There is even footage of a character mounting or attacking a giant creature. Another sequence appears to show a player reviving a fallen teammate during combat.
HoYoverse has confirmed Unreal Engine 5 is powering the game. However, the studio has not announced a release date or release window yet.
