NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5060 series has just been launched and is already being criticized. In an official post on May 23, 2025, the company confirmed a firmware-level compatibility issue affecting certain systems.
This comes after a troubled RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti launch, which has already faced backlash for low VRAM, missing review drivers, and high prices. Adding this new issue to the mix makes us question whether the card is consumer-ready!
What is the issue?
According to the support article published by NVIDIA, some users have faced a black screen issue while restarting their systems after installing RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti.
NVIDIA has tracked down the reason for the issue, which is firmware incompatibility between the graphics card and some motherboard SBIOS configurations, mainly those using Legacy/CSM boot mode instead of UEFI.
What is the solution suggested?
To address the issue, NVIDIA has released a tool, NVIDIA GPU UEFI Firmware Update Tool v2.0, which can detect whether your RTX 5060 GPU needs a firmware update and apply it if required. Before that, you need to follow the prerequisites suggested before running the tool:
- Shutdown your computer completely before powering it back on
- Ensure the motherboard BIOS of your device is updated to the latest version
- Switch to UEFI boot mode from Legacy/CSM
- Use integrated graphics or a secondary GPU to boot if the RTX 5060 is not displaying video
- Wait for the OS to load fully with graphics drivers before running the firmware tool.
If your motherboard is not UEFI-compliant, NVIDIA recommends contacting the GPU manufacturer’s customer service to get a legacy VBIOS update instead.
Whether it was memory constraints, delayed drivers, or compatibility issues, the RTX 5060 launch did not go as smoothly as everyone expected.
Though NVIDIA has rushed to fix the current issue quickly, this has undoubtedly shaken users’ trust. What do you think? Share your thoughts on the matter in the comments section below.
