Microsoft Teams is a platform that combines chat, video meetings, file and app sharing, and emoji in one place. It is part of Microsoft 365 and accessible to everyone.

Microsoft Teams used the Files app to store and manage files. It allowed users to access their files from chat, channels, meetings, OneDrive, and SharePoint.

Microsoft is replacing the Files app with the new OneDrive app for more effective file management. The revamped OneDrive app in Teams offers new views, filters, and AI-powered recommendations for finding files quickly.

The new OneDrive app takes advantage of all the recent updates made to OneDrive and SharePoint library experiences, bringing you the benefits of performance improvements, new views, and feature enhancements in OneDrive.

The new OneDrive integration gathers all the files in one place, including loops, dashboards, and design boards you need to work on, no matter where they live in Microsoft 365.

This way, it is much easier to access all the content you’ve created, or have been shared with you across Microsoft 365, right from Teams.

Microsoft announced that is it rolling out the new OneDrive experience to the new Teams app. For the classic Teams version, the new enhancement will roll in early 2024 with the Files app name unchanged. Additionally, there is no change at this time to the Files app on the Teams mobile version.
