ChatGPT ads are about to hit Europe in a big way. OpenAI says advertising will expand across 31 European markets next week, marking its biggest rollout yet.

ChatGPT Ads are heading into major European markets

The expansion includes Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Austria. OpenAI says the rollout will begin next week, with August 24 reported as the launch date.

This is a major step for OpenAI’s advertising business. The company began testing ChatGPT Ads in the United States six months ago before expanding into additional markets.

OpenAI says advertisers will initially access the platform through its Ads Solutions team, agency partners, and technology partners. Self-service advertising through Ads Manager is expected later this summer.

Free and Go users will see the biggest change

The ads will initially appear for ChatGPT Free and Go users. Paid plans including Plus and Pro remain ad-free, according to OpenAI’s current advertising policy.

OpenAI says ads will be clearly labeled and separated from ChatGPT responses. The company also says advertising will not influence the answers users receive. The European expansion follows OpenAI’s August 11 rollout into the UK, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, and South Korea. That puts ChatGPT Ads in substantially more markets within a short period.
