OpenAI Seeks $60B From Nvidia, Amazon, and Microsoft to Fuel AI Expansion
Recent reports suggest that OpenAI could lose as much as $14 billion this year, highlighting the growing financial pressure behind large-scale AI development. Despite the projected loss, the company is reportedly deep in negotiations to secure massive new funding from major tech players.
OpenAI reportedly seeks up to $60B in new funding
According to The Information, OpenAI is in advanced talks to raise up to $60 billion in fresh investment. Several technology giants are said to be involved, each exploring different levels of financial and strategic commitment.
Nvidia is reportedly negotiating the largest share of the potential investment, which could reach as high as $30 billion. Nvidia already counts as an OpenAI investor and supplies the specialized chips used to train and run its AI models, making it a natural partner as computing demands increase.
Microsoft is also expected to participate, though its contribution may stay below $10 billion. Meanwhile, Amazon is reportedly discussing an investment that could exceed $20 billion, depending on broader cloud infrastructure and commercial AI agreements.
The push for funding reflects OpenAI’s rapidly rising operational costs. Reports claim the company’s power usage reached 1.9 gigawatts in 2025, driven by the scale of AI training workloads. OpenAI has stated, however, that its data centers will not increase electricity bills for local residents.
Sources say OpenAI is close to receiving formal term sheets, though none of the companies have made an official announcement. Separately, OpenAI is also working on Prism AI Workspace, a new tool aimed at supporting scientific writing.
