Users are reporting a new issue in Outlook for Mac version 16.110 where email replies no longer display the original message beneath the compose window.

The bug appears to affect the legacy Outlook for Mac application. Instead of showing the original email thread when replying, affected users say they only see a blank compose area or their newly written response, making it difficult to reference the original conversation.

According to reports shared online, the issue surfaced shortly after updating to Outlook for Mac version 16.110. A discussion thread describing the bug has received more than 40 upvotes, suggesting that multiple users have encountered the same problem.

Microsoft Acknowledges the Outlook for Mac Reply Bug

Microsoft has officially acknowledged the issue in a support document.

The company confirmed that some users may find that original email content does not appear when composing replies in the legacy Outlook for Mac client. As a temporary workaround, Microsoft recommends switching to the newer Outlook for Mac experience until a permanent fix becomes available.

Microsoft has not yet provided a timeline for a resolution.

Workaround Currently Requires Moving to New Outlook

For affected users, Microsoft’s current guidance is straightforward.

While this workaround restores normal reply behavior for many users, some users may hesitate to switch due to ongoing concerns about performance and feature differences between the two Outlook versions.

Outlook Continues to Face User Complaints

The latest bug arrives amid broader criticism of Outlook’s transition strategy.

Some users have recently reported that the new Outlook experience feels slower than the classic version in certain scenarios, as highlighted in reports that the new Outlook experience feels slower than the classic version. Earlier this year, Microsoft also addressed an issue that caused images to break or display incorrectly in Outlook.

Despite those complaints, Microsoft continues to invest heavily in the newer client, with several new features currently in development.

One of the most anticipated upcoming additions is Unified Inbox support.

The feature will allow users to view emails from multiple accounts in a single inbox, reducing the need to switch between separate mailboxes. Unified Inbox has been a frequently requested capability among Outlook users who manage several email accounts, and Microsoft is finally adding a Unified Inbox to Outlook for Windows.

Microsoft has been gradually adding new functionality to modern Outlook clients as part of its long-term effort to consolidate the Outlook experience across Windows, Mac, and mobile platforms.
