Of these issues, the error message “The address list cannot be displayed” is one of the most annoying. Many users encountered this problem especially on Office 365 and Outlook 2016.

How can I recover my address list in Outlook?

1. Re-add your contacts

  1. Go to Account settings.
  2. Select the Address book tab.
  3. Click on Change.
  4. Highlight ‘Contacts: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***’.
  5. Click on remove address book.
  6. Add your contacts again.
  7. Restart Outlook.

Re-adding your contacts can be tedious work if your address list was large. Also, you might lose several email addresses.

2. Set an Autodiscover subkey to 0

The issue might appear if the ExcludeHttpsAutoDiscoverDomain value under an Autodiscover subkey is set to 1. Change the value to 0 for the following subkey:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftOffice16.0OutlookAutoDiscover

After you changed the value, restart Outlook.

You can change the registry value with the Windows Registry Editor. Alternatively, you can choose a third-party registry editor.
