Microsoft yesterday rolled out PowerToys version 0.92, and it comes with several user-focused changes along with performance upgrades. A small but handy tweak adds a system tray toggle in the app’s settings, giving you the option to show or hide the tray icon.
The Command Palette gets a boost, too. Microsoft improved its performance with better Ahead-of-Time (AoT) compilation, which now supports all first-party extensions. The result is a more stable experience and faster command execution. Hotkeys are now handled consistently across commands, and key UX fixes make the tool feel smoother overall.
PowerToys Run gets a new feature as well, an integrated Speed Test powered by Ookla’s Speedtest CLI. If you’ve ever wanted to run a quick network check without opening a browser, it’s now built right in.
Several backend components have also been updated to help improve stability. Microsoft has upgraded .NET libraries to version 9.0.6 and moved WinAppSDK to version 1.7.2.
Other tools in PowerToys see meaningful changes too. Color Picker now lets you customize what each mouse button does, while the Bug Report Tool makes sending feedback faster and easier. It compresses files more efficiently and includes logs from the MSIX installer.
File Explorer add-ons also benefit from more stable rendering. PDF previews, thumbnails, and text file navigation should now feel more reliable.
To wrap it up, Command Palette extensions are smarter, too. The Time & Date tool gives accurate results again, and Web Search now respects your default browser on Windows 11 24H2 and later. You can even restart Windows Explorer directly using a new system command.
