Signal Now Allows You to Pin Messages in One-on-One & Group Chats

Signal is rolling out a feature users have been asking for a long time now. The privacy-focused messaging app is now adding pinned messages to both one-on-one and group chats, making it easier to keep important details visible.

Until now, key information often got lost in fast-moving conversations. This update aims to fix that. The feature is rolling out gradually with the latest version of Signal. Once available, pinned messages will appear at the top of chats, helping users quickly find critical information without scrolling endlessly.

Pinning a message on Signal is simple. Users can long-press on a message, photo, poll, or file and select the pin option. Once pinned, the message becomes visible at the top of the chat for everyone who was part of the conversation when the message was originally sent.

Signal allows up to three pinned messages per chat. This limit helps keep things organized, especially in busy group conversations. In group chats, admins can also control who is allowed to pin messages through group settings, preventing misuse or clutter.

However, pinned messages won’t appear if the original message isn’t in your chat history. This usually happens if you joined a group after the message was sent or if you deleted the original message earlier.

Signal also gives users control over how long messages stay pinned. When pinning a message, users can choose between 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or forever. Once the selected duration ends, the message automatically unpins itself.

If a chat already has three pinned messages and a new one is added, Signal will automatically remove the oldest pinned message to make room. Users can also manually unpin messages at any time by tapping the pin icon. Users who want early access to upcoming features can also join Signal’s beta program to test changes before they roll out widely.
