Sony Cracks Down on PS5 Jailbreaks as Overdrive Game Store Disappears
Overdrive, an unofficial game store for jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles, has reportedly stopped working, with its GitHub repository also disappearing.
The shutdown comes amid growing interest in PS5 jailbreaking. Recent developments have allowed jailbroken PS5 consoles to access Xbox Cloud Gaming and even run Xbox 360 and Original Xbox games through emulators.
According to Oliver Darko, Overdrive is no longer functional, while its GitHub page now returns a 404 error.
Sony has not commented on the situation, and there is no confirmation that the company played any role in the shutdown.
Overdrive allowed jailbroken PS5 users to download games for free
Overdrive operated as an alternative game store for jailbroken PS5 consoles, allowing users to browse and download PS4 and PS5 games without purchasing them.
When paired with ShadowMountPlus, the app could also make downloaded games appear directly on the PS5 home screen, providing an experience similar to installing games through the official PlayStation Store.
However, it remains unclear which servers hosted the downloadable game files or what caused Overdrive to stop working.
Despite the shutdown, other methods of finding and installing games on jailbroken PS5 consoles remain available.
Relapse exploit brought PS5 jailbreaking to newer firmware
Overdrive’s disappearance follows significant developments in the PS5 jailbreaking scene.
The Relapse exploit, released in late September 2026, expanded jailbreak support to PS5 consoles running firmware versions up to 13.60.
Sony responded with firmware version 14.00.00 on September 16, introducing security fixes that blocked the exploit. The subsequent 14.10.00 update, released on October 1, also prevents users from taking advantage of the vulnerability.
These developments have increased interest in unofficial PS5 applications, including alternative game stores and emulators.
For now, Overdrive’s future remains uncertain, and there is no indication that the service will return.
In other PlayStation news, GameStop recently raised the price of a used PS5 Pro to $1,400, making it significantly more expensive than a new console.
