Sony to Increase PlayStation Plus Prices for New Members in Select Regions Starting May 20

Sony has officially announced increase in PlayStation Plus prices again, and this time the hike impacts “new customers” across select regions starting May 20. The company says the price hike is result of “ongoing market conditions,” though it hasn’t shared exact reasons beyond that.

Under the new pricing structure, PlayStation Plus 1-month subscriptions will now start at $10.99 / €9.99 / £7.99. Meanwhile, the 3-month tier jumps to $27.99 / €27.99 / £21.99. As of now, Sony hasn’t mentioned any changes for 12-month subscriptions.

That said, existing PlayStation Plus subscribers won’t immediately feel the impact in most regions. According to Sony, the higher pricing only applies to new customers unless an active subscription lapses, gets canceled, or changes tiers. However, there is one notable exception here. Players in India and Turkey appear to be affected regardless of their current subscription status.

At a time when subscription prices are climbing across the gaming industry, Sony’s latest adjustment may not come as a huge surprise. Over the past couple of years, both Xbox and PlayStation have gradually increased pricing across hardware, accessories, and digital services. Contrary to Sony, Xbox recently dropped the Game Pass prices recently.

For now, it remains unclear whether more regions will see similar increases later this year. With gaming subscriptions becoming more expensive almost everywhere, many players will probably start comparing long-term value much more closely moving forward.
