Sony’s Bend Studio Confirms Layoffs as It Gears Up for New Game
Nearly 40 employees have lost their jobs
Another round of layoffs has hit the gaming industry, and this time it’s coming from within Sony’s own ranks. Bend Studio, the team behind Days Gone, is letting go of several employees as it begins work on a new project.
The news came from a Bloomberg reporter, Jason Schreier, who revealed that nearly 30% of the studio has been affected. That’s about 40 staff members—gone. Bend Studio confirmed the layoffs in a brief post on X. It noted, “Today, we said goodbye to some incredibly talented teammates as we transition to our next project,” the studio posted. “Their impact will always be part of our story.”
This comes just a few months after Bend remastered its 2019 open-world zombie title, Days Gone, which was one of its most prominent releases in recent years. Before that, the Oregon-based team worked on titles like Syphon Filter, Resistance: Retribution, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss for handheld consoles.
Bend’s full statement acknowledged the difficulty of the moment. “We hold immense respect for everyone who got us here,” the studio said, adding that it remains committed to its future projects.
Whether Bluepoint will face similar cuts remains unclear, but the industry trend doesn’t seem to be slowing down.
