OpenAI is looking to bring a new “Sign in with ChatGPT” feature, letting users log into third-party apps using their ChatGPT accounts. The company is reaching out to developers to gauge interest in integrating this feature, a move that could broaden ChatGPT’s already massive footprint.
The “Sign in with ChatGPT” option will be every where soon
ChatGPT boasts around 600 million monthly active users, making it a powerhouse in consumer tech. OpenAI wants to leverage this popularity to branch out into areas like online shopping, social media, and personal devices.
This sign-in feature could put them toe-to-toe with tech giants like Apple, Google, and Microsoft, who’ve long offered seamless single sign-on options for apps.
Earlier this month, OpenAI quietly tested the login feature inside its Codex CLI tool — a command-line coding app. It let developers connect their ChatGPT accounts (Free, Plus, or Pro) directly to their API setup. To sweeten the deal, Plus users got $5 in API credits just for trying it, while Pro users got ten times that.
People are starting to notice. “This is a big deal. ‘Sign in with ChatGPT’ could be everywhere soon,” said Nick Dobos on X. Behind the scenes, OpenAI’s now asking developers what kind of audience they serve — from tiny apps with just a few hundred users to platforms serving millions.
They’re also looking at how companies currently charge for AI features, and whether they’re already tied into OpenAI’s ecosystem through the API. Moreover, there’s still no official timeline or launch window, though — or any clear list of companies that have signed up.
