Spotify Brings AI Prompted Playlists to Premium Subscribers in the U.S. and Canada

Spotify has officially moved its Prompted Playlists feature out of testing, making the AI-powered tool available to eligible users.

According to a recent blog post, Spotify is rolling out Prompted Playlists to Premium subscribers in the United States and Canada. The new feature allows users to generate personalized playlists by describing, in their own words, what kind of music they want to listen to.

How Spotify’s Prompted Playlists work

Prompted Playlists lets users type natural, conversational prompts instead of selecting genres, moods, or artists manually. Spotify says the feature builds on its earlier AI playlist experiments, but offers more detailed prompts and improved personalization. The company confirmed that the older AI playlist tool will remain available, with both features running side by side.

The goal behind Prompted Playlists is to make music discovery more accessible. Users no longer need to understand specific genre labels or curation terminology to create tailored playlists. Spotify’s AI analyzes real-time signals from the music world, including trends, charts, culture, and historical data. It also factors in each user’s full listening history since they joined the platform.

Spotify notes that the feature is still in beta, which means some usage limits may apply during the rollout. Eligible Premium users can already try the tool and experiment with different prompts to fine-tune their listening experience.

The rollout comes during a busy period for Spotify. The company recently raised subscription prices again in the U.S. and continues to test additional features, including Page Match for audiobook syncing.
