Spotify Cracks Down on Fake AI Podcasts with Verified Badges

Spotify finally appears to be taking AI impersonation seriously. As podcasting gets flooded with cloned voices, fake hosts, and questionable AI-generated content, Spotify is now rolling out verified badges for podcasts alongside stricter enforcement against impersonation. To catch you up, Spotify also recently started rolling out similar badges to verify real artists on the platform.

Spotify wants podcasts listeners to know what’s real

The company says the new “Verified by Spotify” badge will start appearing on select podcast shows beginning today. As seen in the feature image above, the new verification badges comes with a light green checkmark and is meant to confirm that a show is the official presence of a creator, publisher, or brand on the platform.

The company says podcasting is built around connection and familiarity, which makes creator identity increasingly important as AI-generated audio keeps growing. As for the eligibility, the verification will depend on several factors, including sustained listener activity, compliance with platform policies, and audience authenticity checks meant to catch fraudulent or bot-driven engagement.

That being said, Spotify also admits authenticity in podcasting is becoming more complicated. The company says its approach will continue evolving over time, which likely means today’s badge rollout is only the beginning.

AI voice cloning is clearly on Spotify’s radar

Besides verification badges, Spotify has also reconfirmed that unauthorized impersonation is prohibited on the platform. This includes AI voice cloning and other methods used to mimic creators without permission. The company says it will remove podcast content and shows that impersonate creators or hosts.

Spotify already has reporting tools in place for unauthorized voice or identity usage, but it now appears to be strengthening enforcement as AI-generated podcasts become easier to produce. Interestingly, Spotify is not framing AI itself as the enemy. In fact, the company says AI can still unlock new creative possibilities if used responsibly.
