Spotify's New AI Feature Lets You Talk to the App & Control Music Naturally

This year, Spotify has been quite aggressively pushing AI features, including several verification systems that prevent spamming on the platform. Well, continuing that push, today, Spotify has officially unveiled “Talk to Spotify,” a new conversational feature that allows Premium subscribers ask questions, discover music, manage playback, and even explore their own listening habits without leaving the app.

Instead of tapping through menus or typing keywords into the search bar, eligible Premium users can now simply speak or type naturally to Spotify. The new experience supports follow-up questions, making it feel more like chatting with an assistant than using a music streaming app.

Users can ask Spotify to play artists they’ve never heard before, add specific musicians to the current mix, make playlists more upbeat, or narrow recommendations to an artist’s latest releases. Once something catches your ear, Spotify also lets you save tracks, queue songs, or follow artists using conversational prompts.

The feature doesn’t stop with music recommendations. Spotify can also answer questions about the song, album, artist, or genre currently playing. Users can ask about album release dates, creative inspiration behind an artist’s work, or discover similar musicians without opening another app.

Podcast and audiobook listeners are getting the same treatment. Spotify says users can ask about authors, podcast guests, related books, or similar shows while listening, turning the player into an interactive discovery tool.

Only available in beta to Premium users aged18 or older in the US

Another notable addition is the ability to explore personal listening history. Users can ask when they first played a song, check which genres they’ve been listening to recently, or learn more about their overall music taste based on Spotify’s recommendations and playback history.

For now, Talk to Spotify is rolling out in beta for Premium users aged 18 and older in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden on Android and iOS devices in English.
