Starfield PS5 Version Announced, Launching April 7 With Major Updates

starfield ps5 announced

Rumors about a PlayStation 5 version of Starfield have been circulating for months, with the latest reports pointing to an April 2026 release window. Those rumors have now proven accurate, as Bethesda has officially announced the PS5 version of its space RPG.

According to Complex, Starfield will launch on PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026, ending nearly three years of Xbox exclusivity. The move marks a significant shift for the title, which originally launched as a flagship Xbox-exclusive experience.

Price drop and new content arrive alongside PS5 version

Bethesda is also repositioning the game with a lower entry price. Starfield will cost $49.99 across all platforms, down from its original $69.99 launch price.

The PS5 release will coincide with a new paid story expansion titled Terran Amada. The DLC will cost $10, though it will be included in the Premium Edition. It introduces new quests, characters, locations, enemies, and rewards, expanding the game’s universe further.

At the same time, all players will receive a major free update called Free Lanes. This update significantly changes how exploration works by enabling seamless space travel within star systems and removing loading screens between planets. It also adds new encounters, dungeons, characters, and a new upgrade resource known as X-Tech.

New features aim to refresh the experience for all players

Alongside the expansion and update, Bethesda is introducing several gameplay additions designed to enhance variety and replayability. These include a Moon Jumper land vehicle, a Milliewhale pet, and a new recruitable ship crew member.

The New Game+ mode is also getting improvements, allowing certain items to carry over between playthroughs, giving players more incentive to replay the game.

A second launch moment for Starfield

Bethesda’s Todd Howard confirmed that a PlayStation 5 version was always part of the long-term plan, describing the release as inevitable due to the studio’s history with the platform.

With a lower price, new content, and major gameplay improvements, the PS5 launch positions Starfield for what could become a second wave of success. The expanded platform reach and refreshed experience may attract both new players and those returning to explore the updated universe.
