Steam Machine Launch Details Delayed Due to Hardware Supply Constraints
Valve has shared an update on its Steam hardware roadmap, and the news comes with a delay. In a newly published FAQ, Valve confirmed that it still cannot announce pricing or exact launch dates for its upcoming Steam devices, despite earlier plans to do so in early 2026.
The update follows AMD’s recent financial report, in which the company reaffirmed the Steam Machine shipping window while also warning that some challenges remain.
Steam Machine pricing and release date remain unconfirmed
When Valve revealed its refreshed Steam hardware lineup in November, it promised to share pricing and release details in early 2026. That window has now arrived, but Valve says it needs more time before making firm announcements.
The company reiterated that the overall first-half-of-2026 launch target remains unchanged, even though specific dates and prices stay undecided.
Memory and storage shortages cause setbacks
Valve pointed to worsening industry-wide shortages of memory and storage as the main obstacle. Rising DRAM and SSD constraints make it difficult to finalize costs and shipping schedules, especially for devices that rely on full PC-class components.
These supply issues hit the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame the hardest, as both products depend on higher-end hardware configurations compared to simpler accessories.
Market conditions remain unstable
Valve explained that fast-changing market conditions create too much risk for locking in pricing too early. The company wants to avoid sudden adjustments after launch, which could frustrate customers and partners alike.
For now, Valve plans to keep users informed as the situation evolves and says it will share more details once pricing and logistics stabilize.
With DRAM and SSD prices expected to rise further in 2026, delays like this may become more common across the PC and gaming hardware market.
