Surface Hub Reportedly Dead as Microsoft Ends Hub 3 Production, Future Models Not Coming

Support for Surface Hub 3 with OS and firmware updates to run through 2030

Microsoft Surface Hub 3: Who is it for and why?

Microsoft has reportedly discontinued its Surface Hub lineup. If you are unaware, Surface Hub devices were designed for enterprise use, primarily as large collaboration displays for meeting rooms.

The news comes via Windows Central, which citing unnamed sources, reported that Microsoft has ended production of the Surface Hub 3 and has scapped plans for any future models. In other words, Microsoft won’t launch the Surface Hub 4.

To catch you up, the Surface Hub 3 launched in 50-inch and 85-inch sizes, with pricing starting around $8,000 and beefiest model going up to an whopping $20,000. While some units are still available through Microsoft and retail partners, the lineup will effectively be retired once existing stock runs out.

Notably, the Surface Hub lineup was popular among business users for its modular design. The display and compute components were separate, allowing businesses to upgrade hardware without replacing the entire unit.

Microsoft even used this approach once by offering a compute upgrade for Surface Hub 2 users to transition to Hub 3. Despite the discontinuation, Microsoft will officially continue to support Surface Hub 3 with OS and firmware updates through 2030. This ensures that existing enterprise customers can continue using the devices without immediate disruption

It remains to be seen whether Microsoft will return to large-format collaboration devices in the future. But for now, the Surface Hub line appears to be coming to a complete shutdown.
