Surface Pro 5 and 6 firmware update

Microsoft has recently rolled out some new firmware updates for Surface Pro 5 and Surface Pro 6.

The updates are available for Surface devices with Windows 10 April 2018 Update or higher, and they will be delivered in stages. So if you didn’t get the updates already, you’ll get them soon.

New Surface updates might solve the battery drain issues

Here’s the changelog from the Surface update history page:

Windows Update History Name Device Manager Name
Surface – System – 5.2.139.0 Surface Storage Firmware Update – System devices

  • 5.2.139.0 improves system stability.

Oddly enough, the changelog mentions only a system stability improvement, without any more information.

These firmware updates may be related to the battery issues reported recently, but it’s unclear at the moment if they solve the problem or not.

If you want to install the updates on your Surface device, you can do so via Windows Updates.

Also, you can download them manually from Microsoft. Get the update package for Surface Pro 5 from this link, and the update package for Surface Pro 6 from this link.
