New Details of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Emerges from Official Nintendo Listing
At the June 2026 Nintendo Direct, Nintendo finally announced what fans had been waiting years to hear. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is officially returning on Nintendo Switch 2.
The official reveal trailer was brief. Fans didn’t get gameplay deep dive and release date. Nor did they got any developer interview followed by the announcement. However, a newly discovered Nintendo website listing has now filled in some of the missing details.
Nintendo calls The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time a full remake
Shortly after the Direct wrapped up, fans started digging through Nintendo’s official store page and uncovered an extended description. Per the description, the company is treating the project as a complete remake rather than a simple remaster (via Insider Gaming).
“The N64 classic, reborn as a full remake for Nintendo Switch 2. Experience Ocarina of Time with stunning visuals, updated designs, and timeless gameplay.”
That wording suggests Nintendo has built the beloved adventure from the ground up with modern visuals while preserving the core experience that made the original 1998 release a landmark title. As of now, Nintendo hasn’t confirmed which internal team or partner studio is handling development.
No release date attached yet
Nintendo currently lists Ocarina of Time Remake for a 2026 release window, but an exact release date remains a mystery. Speaking of timing, the game arrives as The Legend of Zelda franchise approaches its 40th anniversary in 2027. Nintendo is also preparing a live-action Zelda movie, which is reportedly scheduled to debut next year.
