Microsoft will officially launch the new Outlook for Windows app on August 1, 2024. The Redmond-based tech giant has been working on this change for quite a while, and making the app available for personal use is a new step in its continuous efforts to improve user experience and support.
According to reports, people used to the classic Outlook can still use it. Microsoft has explained that this change doesn’t mean people must immediately give up the known interface. They present the new Outlook as an optional experience, guaranteeing users retain the choice in deciding when or not to transition.
Additionally, Microsoft promised to give a 12-month notice warning before any important changes are implemented, including any migration steps led by the company in managed environments. This way, the Redmond-based tech giant intends to reduce disturbances and offer organizations sufficient time to properly plan and execute their transition methods.
For those people interested in the new Outlook but worried about changing, the company has also founded Assisted Support, which is available so that users can shift into this fresh environment without issues. Also, from August 2024 onwards, the classic Outlook will be marked by adding “(classic)” to its name to clearly distinguish between old and new versions, and it might be turned into a web app.
Acknowledging some organizations may have different reasons to stick with the classic Outlook, Microsoft assures users that support for the older app will be available until 2029 at minimum.
The company is also relying on users’ feedback, as it is an important part of Microsoft’s new Outlook plan. It plans to gather user input so that it can improve the app and solve any issues.
