Valor Mortis Release Delayed to October 13; Original September Date Was Too Crowded
Thanks to GTA 6’s November 19 release, not one publisher is releasing a game that month. Their best bet? September 2026, which is also starting to look less like a release calendar and more like a battlefield. One of the most talked-about games from the Xbox Games Showcase has already decided it wants no part of the fight.
Valor Mortis, the dark fantasy action game from Ghostrunner developer One More Level, is officially moving out of its previously announced September 24 release slot. The game will now release on October 13, 2026. The confirmation came from the Valor Mortis official X account earlier today.
In an interview with Game File, the publishing head Blake Rochkind explained just how fast things shifted. Lyrical Games apparently locked in the September date weeks before major summer gaming events began. At the time, the release window appeared relatively open. However, that changed quickly.
Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall, Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Minecraft Dungeons 2, and several other notable releases soon crowded the same period.
“When we picked September 24th, it looked like a very, very clear date. Very quickly it became not such a clear date,” said Rochkind. He further added, “There were so many unknowns. This was before Sony State of Play, before Xbox Showcase, before Nintendo Direct, before Summer Games Fest.”
The situation apparently became obvious once Remedy locked in its own date. “As soon as Control announced September 24th, we knew we were moving the date.”
The delay pushes Valor Mortis into October, though even that month isn’t completely empty. The game is now scheduled to release Planet Zoo 2 and just days before Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse. That being said, the move gives the game significantly more breathing room than its previous launch slot.
